about faith church

Faith Church is the largest evangelical congregation within the Europe, being a branch of the Pentecostal- Charismatic movement, which boasts 600 million members worldwide. The church, that was founded by a small prayer group in Budapest, Hungary, has an active membership of over 70 thousand, with over 200 local groups all over the country, in the neighbouring countries, and all over Europe.

pastor
sandor nemeth & judit

Sandor and Judit Nemeth are the founding and leading pastors of Faith Church Hungary. It is thanks to their courageous, faithful and devoted ministry and leadership, that the church could grew out of a 7 member prayer group to 70 thousand member church, from a persecuted, illegal underground congregation to a free one, recognized as a legitimate church by the state after the fall of Communism in Hungary.

When Communism was still raging in Eastern Europe, God called a young man, Sandor Nemeth to be a preacher of the Gospel. Sandor had just been detained by border guards and thrown into prison (he was trying to flee from Communist Hungary), where he prayed his first earnest prayer for deliverance. After being miraculously released from the prison, he bought a Bible. Being faithful to the vision he got from God, he and his wife stood firm amongst persecution, bravely preached the whole Gospel and gave way to the movement of the Holy Spirit. God blessed the steadfastness of the small underground churchgroup, and made them a great community, deeply embedded in society, leading out the Hungarian people of darkness into His glorious light. This is how the story of Faith Church begins, and continues to grow and flourish to this day.

what we believe

Our faith based on the bible

We believe that the Holy Bible is the written form of the Word of God. Its author is the God of Israel, who revealed His eternal truths to us by His Holy Spirit.
We believe that faith comes from hearing the Word of God preached with the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
We believe that God revealed himself in tree persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Church is the is the community of the people who were called out of sin, who believe in Jesus Christ and were born again.
We believe that in order to be saved and become a true follower of Christ, one has to believe in Jesus, the Son of God, repent his sins, and be baptized in water and the Holy Spirit.
We believe that God is the same yesterday, today and forever, therefore, miracles, supernatural healing, and deliverence from demons still happen today.

Our mission is to fulfill the Great Commission:

„Go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commended you.”

history

about the history of our church

Origins of the
Pentecostal-Charismatic
movement

Back to the beginning

„You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

Christianity was born in Jerusalem an within just a few decades it spread throughout the whole Roman Empire. The secret was in the power of the Holy Spirit providing equipping believers with the same power and dynamism that characterized the ministry of Jesus Christ.

From the 4th century though, state increasingly made Christianity serve itself, alienating it from its roots, and the Bible was replaced by traditions and dogmas. There were several attempts to return tot he true, Biblical foundations. At the end, Martin Luther and Reformation brought about a breakthrough. Protestantism had a beneficial effect on the development of capitalism, of civilization and of nation states.

Unfortunately, since they thought that the miracle-making power of the Holy Spirit „ceased”with the death of the apostles, passionate, fate-forming faith withered in people’s hearts.

In the 19th century, more and more people realized this and began to preach the ancient biblical truth that all of us need a personal connection with God. On January 1, 1901, a Kansas preacher asked his students what is the proof of someone receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised to those who believe in Him. Based ont he Bible, the answer was simple: praying in tongues. Afterwards, Pentecost happened again: during just a few days thousands experienced what the apostles did after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Praying in tongues frees prayer from the limits of the natural intellect, and enables us to pray direcly to God with our supernatural part, through the Holy Spirit. Today, it is a historical fact, that the Pentecostal-Charismatic movement is one of the biggest Christian revival and renewal ever. Over 650 million Christians believe that a direct, personal connection can be formed with God.

Hungary first received the good news about the new Pentecost from veterand of World War I. coming home from the United States. It quickly became the fastest spreading Christian movement in our country as well. Authorities persecuted Charismatic communities both during the Horthy-system and Communism, they survived though underground.

Today the biggest representative of the Pentecostal-Charismatic movement is Faith Church in Hungary with tens of thousands of believers carrying the unquenchable fire of Christianity, the Holy Spirit.
